TRADUCCIÓN ÍNTEGRA DEL QUIJOTE AL ESPAÑOL ACTUAL, DE LA MANO DE ANDRÉS TRAPIELLO, ESCRITOR Y RECONOCIDO EXPERTO EN CERVANTES, EN SU 8.a EDICIÓN.
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
THE COMPLETE TRANSLATION OF DON QUIJOTE INTO MODERN SPANISH, BY ANDRÉS TRAPIELLO, WRITER AND RENOWNED EXPERT ON CERVANTES, NOW IN ITS 8TH EDITION.
"Somewhere in La Mancha, in a place whose name I do not care to remember, there lived not long ago a gentleman of those who keep a lance in the rack, an old shield, a skinny horse, and a greyhound for racing."
With these words, Andrés Trapiello introduces one of the most ambitious literary projects of recent times: the first printed translation into modern Spanish of Don Quijote de la Mancha.
Don Quijote de la Mancha, perhaps the most original and influential novel in literature, is also one of the least read by Spanish-speaking readers, often well-read individuals who feel overwhelmed by the difficulty of 17th-century Spanish, which is more distant from today's language than it may seem.
As Mario Vargas Llosa writes in the introduction to this edition, "it has been a work of perseverance and love, inspired by his well-known devotion to the great classic of our language."
Andrés Trapiello is the author of eight novels, including El buque fantasma (winner of the 1992 Plaza & Janés International Novel Prize), The Perfect Crime (winner of the 2003 Nadal Prize and the 2005 National Prize for Best Foreign Novel in Beijing), Upon the Death of Don Quixote (2004; winner of the 2005 José Manuel Lara Foundation Novel Prize and the 2005 Madeleine Zepter European Literary Prize in Paris for Best Foreign Novel), and Los confines (2009). He is also the author of La noche de los Cuatro Caminos (2001), a book about the anti-Franco guerrilla movement in Madrid, and the diary series Salón de pasos perdidos, which has been published in seventeen volumes. As an essayist, he has written works including The Lives of Miguel de Cervantes (1993), The Ark of Words (2006), Modern Printing (1874-2005) (2006), and Las armas y las letras (1994; revised in 2010). His first four poetry collections were gathered in Las tradiciones (1991), followed by Acaso una verdad (winner of the 1993 National Critics' Prize) and Segunda oscuridad (2012). Among many honors, he has received the Madrid Regional Prize for Literature (2003) and the Castilla y León Prize for Literature (2011) in recognition of his body of work.
