ENGLISH DESCRIPTION In a small village in the mountains of Teruel, Nieves, the new doctor, tries to help Micaela, a girl who has stopped sleeping and going to school, and who seems to be living under the siege of an unnamed fear. >In her search for answers, Nieves comes to understand that there are forms of suffering that cannot be addressed without listening to what for decades remained confined to the realm of the private. Her relationship with Micaela, Clementina, and the townspeople also transforms her own perspective on care, loss, and the bonds that unite one generation with another, even when collective silence seems to have erased all traces.

With evocative prose and tremendous psychological precision, Ángeles González-Sinde crafts a novel in which memory finds its way through everyday life and through characters of great humanity. One Night in 1947 explores the scars that postwar violence left on families and the rural world and shows how the past continues to shape the present through what is remembered, but also through what was never told.

"González-Sinde's writing tends toward the restraint and efficiency of a screenplay, as well as its conciseness." --Juan Ángel Juristo, Culturas, La Vanguardia
