ENGLISH DESCRIPTION "Sometimes I think the stones didn't just creak for the sake of creaking. And that the howling of the coyotes, the night before Pascuala took the baby from little Margarita, was an omen." In Cuitla, a town where poverty and hunger weigh heavier than the dust, Lupe carries a secret. What began as a clandestine remedy to help Margarita--the daughter of the owners of Los Amates--ends in tragedy. While little Margarita's body goes missing and her wealthy family searches for her through news reports and prayers, Lupe must keep setting the table, doing the laundry, answering police questions, and withstanding probing stares... as if she knew nothing. Slowly, the pain of her absence begins to blur the lines, and the story takes a dramatic turn. With her incisive style, Marcela G. Robles Gil presents us with a novel that dissects the rules of the game, only to rearrange them later. Agua turbia is a novel about class, desire, and fear, where water never quite cleanses and reflections end up being more real.
