Mankind has finally developed wormhole technology to the point that humans can travel through them to distant stars. Hector, Terrance and Emma were selected as the first humans to make the journey out and back through a wormhole. Their trip to Proxima Centauri was going as expected, until they somehow made a wrong turn on their return trip, and ended up in a world that defied explanation. They didn't know that the world they had stumbled into was slated for destruction, and that there was only one person in that entire world who knew what they had to do to return home. What they needed to do get home turned out to be so outside of their own paradigm that they could scarcely bring themselves to believe that it might work; much less actually do it.
