In this follow-up to The Sensory Home, award-winning stylist and author Pippa Jameson explores how to bring sensory design and styling outside for relaxed, wellness-focused outdoor spaces that feel as good as they look.
The Sensory Outdoors is a design book for anyone who wants their garden or outside space to feel as comfortable, calming, and emotionally supportive as the inside of their home. Whether you have a city balcony, a compact terrace or a generously proportioned garden, this book helps you style your outside like an interior: layering furniture, textures, colour, light and flow to create restorative spaces focused on wellbeing. Rooted in sensory design, this concept focuses on understanding a space's emotional atmosphere, asking 'will this work for me?' instead of designing based on 'what's in'. Just as The Sensory Home redefined how we feel indoors, this book brings the same care and attention to outdoor spaces, treating them as sensory environments where we can rest, reflect and socialise.

Pippa Jameson is a sensory designer, author and founder of The Sensory Home®. She began her career as an interior stylist, and her work explores how environments affect mood, energy and wellbeing, with a focus on bringing sensory design into the mainstream. As a former magazine editor, she combines over 25 years of industry knowledge and expertise with personal insight into autism. In 2025, she was awarded a Silver Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for her immersive houseplant studio, which showcased sensory design to a global platform. This recognition extends her interior approach into outdoor spaces. She also launched a first-of-its-kind paint collection with Graham & Brown, created to colour to shape emotion-led spaces, which was shortlisted by the UK's Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards in the category 'Best New Home Decor Range'.
