ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Sixty years after its first publication, Farabeuf, Salvador Elizondo's most emblematic work, remains the quintessential experimental and unclassifiable Mexican novel. A surgeon makes a mysterious house call, the nurse awaiting him draws an ambiguous sign on the window; the man photographs a Chinese torture, the woman walks by the sea... These and other images form the literary montage of an instant capable of containing dualities, personal and collective memories, tenacious meditations, profound feelings, and persistent images that may also be invented recollections. A work that astonishes readers both for its formal audacity and its evocative, poetic power. A fascinating tale of suspended time that elevated its author as one of the most singular and transcendent voices in contemporary Mexican literature.
