These days, much thought is being given to housing: economically, because there is an acute shortage of affordable housing; sociologically, because our society is changing rapidly; politically, because the allocation of space raises questions of justice; ecologically, because housing requires resources and generates emissions—and, of course, architecturally as well. This edited volume examines the processes of transformation in housing from a transdisciplinary perspective and focuses on two areas of tension: “Adequacy and Entitlement Mentality” raises questions about affordable construction, new standards, and sufficiency-oriented strategies. “Individuality and Community” looks at societal challenges, collective approaches to thinking and problem-solving, as well as alternative housing models. Enriched with expert interviews, project examples, and concise facts, the publication outlines ways to rethink housing and translate changing practices into action. With contributions by Arnt von Bodelschwingh and Katharina Enders, Leon Denecke, Sebastian Fiedler, Nicola Hilti, Luana Massaro and Christian Reutlinger, Daniel Lenz, Ton Matton, Marcus Menzl and Katharina Pötzsch, Reiner Nagel, Anne Niemann and Tilmann Jarmer, Karen Pein and Julia Jakobi, Kerstin Poehls, Lydia Rintz, Christina Simon-Philipp, Angèle Tersluisen and Jörk Finkbeiner, Claudia Thiesen and Sabine Wolf, Dietmar Walberg and Astrid Holz - Practice-oriented examples and concise knowledge formats on housing- From analysis to implementation: projects, interviews, and facts- Guidance for stakeholders in housing and planning discourse
